Concerns about breast enhancement

Silicone breast implants have been the subject of untold amounts of bad press ever since the FDA pulled them off the market due to their tendency to rupture. Breast enhancement suddenly became a hot topic, with women not only in Manhattan but across the states desperately contacting their surgeons to have their implants removed and find out what other options they had to keep their beautiful breasts as they were. Over a decade later, the FDA approved the use of gel filled silicone implants. These implants are pre-filled, which means once the surgery has been performed, a change in size is not possible without further surgery unlike with the newer saline filled implants that are filled once inserted, allowing your surgeon to adjust the size at the initial surgery.

In Manhattan, breast enhancement surgeons have always favoured silicone gel implants as they not only look and feel totally natural, but they are extremely safe. This is one of the main reasons the FDA chose to study the new higher strength implants for approval. After undertaking almost a decade worth of research involving 2 silicone implant manufacturers in the US, the FDA decided to approve the marketing of silicone gel filled breast implants, made by Allergen Corp. and Mentor Corp. for augmentation in women aged 22+ and for reconstruction in women of any age. To date there have been no conclusive studies with Manhattan breast enhancement patients, or US-wide breast enhancement patients, that show silicone gel filled implants being linked to connective tissue disease or cancer.

The FDA are continuing to monitor the safety of these implants requiring each company to monitor a group of women for 10 years following their implants. As a result of this, in order to discuss your options regarding using these implants, you have to schedule a consultation with a Manhattan breast enhancement surgeon who is approved to perform silicone breast augmentation with silicone gel filled implants and is also board certified.
